BUDDING Spielbergs are being asked to make short films for this year’s Harwich Festival of the Arts.

The event this June will showcase locally made films no longer than 10 minutes duration as part of a series of community based art.

Filmmakers can be any age, the films can be based on any subject and be made using anything from a mobile phone to drones.

But there are only days left to get the entries completed and sent in before the deadline at the end of April.

Peter Davis, artistic director of the festival, said: “John Theobald, a local artist, came to us with the idea.

“The aim was to encourage young people but we have opened it up to everybody.

“The films will be shown on a loop throughout the festival at the Mayflower Visitor Centre as a piece of art but we are hoping to do a showcase at the Electric Palace.

“To do this they need to be licensed by Tendring Council, which we are in talks about now.”

The festival will run from June 22 to July 2 with events held at venues across Harwich including classical music, jazz, visual arts, dance and the spoken word.

This years theme is Making Waves to celebrate the local landscape, history and heritage.
