FIREWALKERS are needed to help raise tens of thousands of pounds for a charity which supports the brave siblings of poorly children.

Sponsor a Sibling is searching for 100 people to walk on scorching hot coals in a bid to raise £22,000 for an adapted caravan for families with ill children to take on holiday.

The money would allow the adapted caravan to be wheelchair accessible and provide specialised equipment for the child’s needs.

It would also cover site fees for caravan parks for the first year of the caravan’s usage.

To try to raise the money organisers from the charity are holding a firewalk extravaganza at Dovercourt Caravan Park, on Saturday, November 25.

For the event there will also be a range of entertainment for children while the firewalkers have their pre-walk training, which will be followed by a celebration party.

Laura Rolph-Wills and her husband Graham set up the charity last year to give the brothers and sisters of poorly children a treat.

She said: “We have witnessed first hand how, when living with a poorly brother or sister, a sibling has to go above and beyond what any other child does.

“We thought with so much focus on the sick child it would be wonderful to have something that could show siblings how amazing they are and how much they really are appreciated.”

The charity sends out gift packs each week and also supports bereaved siblings. Laura said: “Our future project – and by far the most ambitious – is to provide our families a retreat to have a break.

“We will use this to provide free of charge holidays to families.”

She added: “If Sponsor a Sibling can achieve this goal it would be a huge achievement.

“It means we would be able to make a lot of families lives a little bit brighter having a happy place to use.

“We are hoping to be able to make this part of the community and get lots of people and companies involved.”
