A HEARTBROKEN mum wants to make her terminally ill son’s final days as comfortable as possible.

Ashley Jones, 30, has been battling bowel and liver cancer for the past three months.

The diagnosis came as an extra hardship for Ashley and his wife Victoria, who tragically lost their five-month-old son George last February.

George was born with his organs growing outside his body, and despite successful surgery to put them back, he later died in hospital.

While the couple were still grieving, Ashley was diagnosed with cancer.

The former Manningtree High School pupil, who now lives in Halstead, started undergoing chemotherapy in Colchester General Hospital.

But his condition has taken a turn for the worse as the cancer has spread to his lungs.

Mum Wendy Jones, of Harwich Road, Mistley, said: “Ashley’s cancer has spread and the hospital has no choice but to stop treatment as the chemotherapy hasn’t worked.

“He is in St Helena Hospice, in Colchester, as he cannot go home to their flat as he cannot manage the stairs so he is waiting to be rehoused.

“He has no energy and is very weak as cannot keep food down, and is relying on a wheelchair at moment.

“We, as a family, are understandably broken hearted but he still has fight.

“We have no idea how long he has left but we aim to make it the best time we can.”

Diane Butcher, of Brooklands Road, Brantham, met Ashley when he was working for St John Ambulance in Manningtree.

She said she has asked Ashley for his wish list so she can fundraise towards what he needs or wants.

She said: “We want to do absolutely anything that will make whatever time he has left easier for him.”

Diane is holding a bring and buy sale on Saturday at 42 Brooklands Road, in Brantham from 10am until 4pm.
