THOUSANDS of pounds raised by generous young farmers has been handed to three charities.

The Wix Young Farmers annual meeting was held on last Thursday at the Haywain, in Little Bromley.

During the meeting a cheque for £2,000 was presented by member Matt Jackson to Pat Newton at Parkinson’s UK for the charity’s support before and after the loss of his father who died in June.

Lewis Rabett, Chairman of Wix Young Farmers gave a cheque of £1,500 to Charles Bull at Cardiac Risk in the Young.

The group previously had a talk from Charles and his wife to spread awareness of the work the charity does and how serious undiagnosed heart conditions can be.

Mr Rabett also handed out a £1,500 cheque to Kate Williams of Acorn Village, in Mistley.

Acorn Village offers high quality care and accommodation to adults with learning disabilities and Wix Wix Young Farmers visit every year for carol singing.

Liz Bacon, vice chairman of Wix Young Farmers, said: “Our chosen charities were invited to attend the meeting to be presented with a cheque which are usually charities close to our members hearts.

“We fundraise throughout the year with various events such as fireworks night, carol singing, a black tie ball in the spring and an end of year party before harvest starts.”
