A WEEK-long event provided a jaw dropping experience for residents and visitors alike as Shark Week made waves in Harwich.

The Harwich Society Ha’penny Pier visitor centre was the location for the ‘Shark Week’ and the shark themed activities caught the imagination of those who took part.

In total, 376 children, adults and families took part in the fun from shark hat making, making cork rafts to sail across shark infested waters, naming the six-foot-tall model of a Great White Shark and finding shark teeth.

Paul Smith, of the Harwich Society, said: “A special thank you must go to the visitor centre's manager Lesley Elliot who organised and ran the event as well as to the great team of volunteers who worked so hard to make it a success.”

There was an educational table with video showing facts about the world of sharks and for our younger visitors there was Baby Shark and a fishing game.

Harwich Society chairman Colin Farnell added: “The Harwich Society volunteers who staff the Ha’penny Pier visitor centre assist thousands of visitors each year as well as coming up with new and novel ways to provide entertainment for all the family.

“The shark week was their latest great idea and was certainly a lot of fun.”
