A ROTARY club president has donned an authentic new look to fundraise for a pair of good causes.

Steve Coiley, president of Manningtree Rotary Club has shaved in a handlebar moustache and coloured it purple.

He is fundraising for the British Polio Appeal, which rotary clubs around the world aid, and Young Lives Versus Cancer.

Steve said: “Purple is the colour associated with the polio appeal so that’s why I chose it to raise awareness, but all money will be going towards Young Lives Versus Cancer.

“The organisers who usually run the light the night event couldn’t do it this year so I thought I’d help out with this fundraiser.

“The moustache was easy enough to grow but it’s very itchy. The dye wasn’t sticking to my facial hair so I had to use this hair wax dye that wears off at the end of the day.”

Steve will have the moustache until the end of November and his encounters with other residents have been interesting.

He added: “People have been giving me weird looks until I tell them what I’m doing it for and then they are very understanding.”

Manningtree Rotary’s Santa sleigh collection is also set to begin on Monday, December 5.
