MOORING facilities have been opened for visiting vessels at a pier in Harwich.

Ha’penny Pier, which is manned by Harwich Haven Authority, is open for mooring between 8am and 11am and 1pm and 6pm including weekends and bank holidays.

Visiting leisure vessels up to 20 metres can use the facilities at Ha’penny pier pontoons for a maximum stay of 72 hours.

A spokeswoman for Harwich Haven Authority said: “Moorings cannot be booked in advance as we operate on a first come first served basis.

“Be advised that vessels may be double or triple berthed if the mooring facility is busy and prevailing conditions are suitable.

“The outside berths are prioritised for larger vessels and the inside berths are predominately for smaller crafts and leisure vessels must not moor in the harbour ferry or unloading areas.”

During the off-season, which will be October 28 until March 31, 2024, the pontoon area is unmanned by Harwich Haven Authority personnel.

Vessels are still permitted to use the berths in accordance with specific areas but mooring preferences will always be given to fishing vessels.

Mooring is free on the Ha’penny Pier pontoons during the off-season.

However, vessels can only stay in the pontoon area for 24 hours in any seven-day period.

During the off-season, access to shower and toilet facilities is prohibited.

Mooring will be open until Friday, October 27, for more information visit bit.ly/3nKVsC3.
