A HARWICH man is fundraising for a motor neurone disease charity after his mum passed away from the “cruel disease” last year.

Chris Palmer, 30, said his mum Della Budds died due to motor neurone disease – a progressive disease that attacks nerves in the brain and spinal cord – in January 2023 when she was only 61.

He said: “It is a horrible disease which shuts down your muscles one by one, and there is no known cure for it."

Chris revealed his granddad, Raymond Budds, also died after “only two months” of symptoms in 2001 when he was 68 years old.

Chris added that “no one really knows if it is hereditary” and that it was “very hard” to see his mum decline due to the “horrible, horrible, disease”.

Chris will be hosting a 70s, 80s, and 90s disco on April 6 at 7pm at the Park Pavilion in Harwich and tickets will cost £5 with all proceeds going to charity.

Chris will also be running the Great North Run – a half-marathon in Newcastle - in early September to raise vital funds for the charity.
