FIREFIGHTERS gave primary school pupils a fun yet serious lesson in fire safety during a special class.

The team of firefighters from Manningtree Fire and Rescue Service held the class at Mistley Norman Primary School, in Remercie Road, Mistley on Friday, March 20.

The 7 to 9 year olds were taught about the importance of fire alarms and given advice about what to do if a fire starts in their homes.

Carolyn White, class teacher, said: “The firefighters were teaching the children about having a fire safety plan so if they are involved in a fire they know what to do.

“The children really enjoyed it and they learnt a lot.”

A spokesman for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “Working with children is an important part of preventative work we do.

“It is vital that children learn about fire safety as young as possible, they can also take important lessons home to their parents.”
