No decision has been made on the controversial Tesco store proposed for Manningtree.

Tendring Council's Planning Committee discussed the plans for the Station Road site on the border of Lawford and Manningtree but failed to reach a final verdict.

Fears were raised over the impact increased traffic would have on the area and that shops would be forced to close if the store was given the go-ahead.

Despite an initial recommendation to refuse the application, which is the second the supermarket giant has put forward for the site, councillors voted to defer.

Calls were made for more work to be done to assess the traffic impact the Tesco would have before a decision is made.

A previous application was refused on the grounds of increased traffic, a poor design, and fears shops would be forced to close due to a lack of trade.
