PIGS can’t fly, but sausages surely did at an annual festival in Harwich.
The out-of-date pork projectiles were thrown through the air as part of the popular Sausage Festival on Saturday.
Representatives from butchers across the Tendring district competed in the event on the green near St Nicholas’ Church, with the winner, Nick Aldridge, on behalf of the Alma Inn, in Harwich, retaining the title with a record-breaking throw of 150ft and 6ins.
The butchers had also cooked up their best sausage recipes, which underwent a blind taste test by pub punters throughout the day.
The new victor takes home the winning Sausage Festival skillet, new for this year, to hang in the butchers.
