A CENTURY-old foot ferry has been saved from closure after a couple took the plunge to take on the business.
Christian and Lucy Zemann only spotted the ferry service plight two weeks ago.
Former owner Alan Sage had announced he would retire in April, but without someone new to take on the ferry, which has been sailing for more than 100 years between Shotley, Harwich and Felixstowe, the route would close.
Ex-professional kitesurfer Chris, couldn't pass up the opportunity and is hoping the business will be smooth sailing when he takes over next month.
The foot ferry, which has about 15,000 tourists, cyclists, commuters and daytrippers each year, will run from April 3 to April 6, and then weekend only until May 1.
Through the summer the ferry will operate seven days a week.
