A HAIRDRESSER, who has named her new salon after her children, is hoping it will be a cut above the rest.

Gemma Deex, 32, has opened Hair SHAC By The Pier, in Kings Quay Street.

The mum-of-four, from Dovercourt, said her children were the inspiration behind the name of her salon and she used their initials to name the business.

Her children are Sophia, three; Harrison, nine; Archie, four; and Charlie, seven.

Gemma has been in the industry for the past 16 years and has previously managed a salon in Colchester and teaches hairdressing at the Adult Learning Community Centre, in Dovercourt.

Her new business will be replacing the previous salon which stood in its place called Hair By The Pier. Gemma said she is really proud to be opening the salon as it has been a lifelong ambition of hers to do so.

She said: “I believe the Hair SHAC is going to have a really positive impact on trade in the town.

“I am creating additional jobs for hair stylists and will be able to impart my knowledge and my experience on my apprentices and junior stylists. This is the only salon in old Harwich and we have already teamed up with other local businesses in the area to create a better experience for all of our clients.

“This is an exciting time to be starting a new business and we can’t wait to open and get started."
