A SPLASH of creativity is needed to help make fish bunting part of a public art project around Harwich.

The Harwich Festival is launching the first of its planned public art projects for next year’s festival and organisers are holding a workshop to get the project started.

Named Fishy Business, the project needs residents wanting to take part to bring some scraps of fabric, some wadding and two buttons to create fabric fish bunting.

The decorations for the fish can be as bright, colourful, simple or intricate as possible.

The Harwich Festival is hosting a free design workshop at Harwich Library on Saturday, November 11 from 10.30am until midday.

But people can also take part by donating brightly coloured fabric, wadding and buttons to make the decorations at the Harwich Box Office at Harwich Library.

Michael Offord, Harwich Festival general manager, said: “These projects are always fun, popular and well received by the general public and yet another way for more people to be able to take part in our annual festival.

“We are really excited to see what people come up with.”

Templates and instructions will be available from the Harwich Box Office in the coming weeks and completed fish can be dropped off there from the February 1 until June 1 next year.

They will then be displayed in various locations throughout the Harwich Festival, which will run from June 21 until July 1.
