TRAINS were delayed this afternoon after a “landslip” on rail track near to Ardleigh.

Passengers travelling between Manningtree and Colchester were warned of the incident, which was thought to have happened at around 2.50pm, and caused trains to be delayed by around 13 minutes.

There is currently a 50mph speed limit being enforced on trains travelling in the Ardleigh area, usually a 100mph zone.

Russell Spink, spokesperson for Network Rail, said: “There is a speed limit in force around the Ardleigh area as a result of ground underneath the track not being as stable as we would like.

“We need to get in their and firm up the track again so we will probably have equipment go in over night to do the job.”

Delays to trains were limited after 4.10pm.

Rail services were sent into chaos in 2006 after a minor landslip near to Manningtree meant emergency works had to be carried out during peak time travel.
