A VILLAGE will be able to get postal services delivered to their door two years after their post office closed down.
The post office at Woodham Walter closed on a temporary basis in May 2013 but since then an alternative service has not been found.
Now a home service has been introduced to provide residents with a number of services including stamps, bill payments and travel money all delivered to their door.
The service begins today and will be provided by the postmaster at Great Totham Post Office.
Priti Patel, MP for the area, said: “Many residents in rural areas rely on the services that the Post Office provides and this will help customers who have difficulties getting to a branch.
“The home service will help connect people and enable them to buy goods and services through the Post Office.
“Following the closure of the previous Post Office branch in the village, this new service will be welcomed by my constituents.”
In a letter to Ms Patel, Philippa Newey, Field Change Advisor at Post Office, said: “We remain committed to establishing a Post Office service in Woodham Walter and we will continue to monitor for any opportunities.
“But we believe that introducing the Home service can be an effective interim measure that will help those customers who find it difficult to get to their nearest Post Office and will enable them to access some key services provided by the Post Office.”
