FIRE crews spent an hour battling a flames on a village field after crops set alight.

Four fire engines from Colchester, Clacton and Dovercourt were called to a large field fire in Steam Mill Road, Bradfield on Tuesday.

When firefighters arrived they found 100square metres of crops on fire.

A spokesman said: "Crews worked hard to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further, before using beaters to fully extinguish remaining hotspots within the field.

"The fire was extinguished completely by 2.57pm."
