HARWICH and Dovercourt Golf Club held their first nine-hole stableford competition in memory of the late Clive “Chippy” Chippington.
Although the course was still a little wet in places, those that played enjoyed the afternoon and scoring was very close.
At the end of the competition, there were four players tied with 20 points.
The winner was decided on countback and this was Steve Harding, who was presented with the Chippy Memorial Trophy.
It is a miniature replica train that was named after Chippington and presented to the club by GB Railfreight in September 2015.
It is hoped this will become an annual competition to remember a great character of the golf club.
n This week saw the return of the Feuillus Fencing Premier League event at Harwich.
Normal service resumed following another win for Phil Murray, with 35 points.
The Badge of Shame went to Daniel Turner, with a not-so-impressive 20.
The leaderboard is now hotting up, with a number of players competing for the top places.
The league is set to finish on March 23.
