PROUD Harwich Boxing Club coach Martin Webb described his team's performance at the prestigious international Box Cup tournament in Eindhoven as "awesome".

Heading the way to gold was baby of the team, 16-year-old Alfie Lucas.

And there was more golden glory for Lewis Richardson, guesting from Colchester's Centurions ABC.

"I really couldn't have asked more from the team," said Webb.

"They were awesome.

"Ten wins from 13, with the three losses coming to the eventual gold medallists, was a great return.

"We achieved two gold, two silver and one bronze which has made us all very proud.

"It was great experience for the boxers all round.

"We met world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who took a break from his Amsterdam training camp for the upcoming Vladimer Klitchko fight to attend one of the Box Cup sessions.

"It gave the team a real buzz.

"It's hard to single out one particular boxer, as they all did so well.

"However, seeing Patrick Allen Cripps hold his own with the number five ranked light heavyweight in the world was a particular highlight for me.

"Attention now turns to the Haringey Box Cup in London's Alexandra Palace, in June."

Also accompanying the team on the trip were assistant coach Jimmy Cripps and Sudbury ABC judge Leeroy Quilter.
