JOHN Hayes kicked off an exciting sporting day as he officially became the Club Captain of Harwich & Dovercourt Golf Club (H&DGC).

The highly-anticipated captains' drive-in event boasted more than 90 competitors and ended with James Wootton clinching the outright victory with a stellar stableford score of 40 points.

The event was not only a sporting success, but it also saw more than £900 raised for charity.

While Harwich and Dovercourt dominated in the Captains' drive-in, the day didn't end in their favour during the Norman Plum Trophy.

Stoke by Nayland GC curtailed their initial success by matching their home team win with a victory on their own turf.

The ups and downs continued during the Thornton Cup at Rochford Hundred, where the club battled both the daunting wind conditions, which reached speeds of more than 40mph, and a formidable Rochford team.

Although Rochford championed the cup, the Harwich and Dovercourt GC struggles didn't go unnoticed.

Standout performances from Luis Reynolds and Eric Bushell underlined the strength of the Harwich team's overall grit and potential.

Harwich and Dovercourt GC is still welcoming new members, from beginners to scratch golfers and green fees are also welcome.
