Harwich's Tom Chitty finished his junior squash career on a high by winning the Suffolk Open.

He had plenty to celebrate after not dropping a single set all weekend.

Chitty, who celebrated his 19th birthday a few days ago, blew the field away at Ipswich Sports Club.

His first match against Adam Simkins, from Norfolk, resulted in a resounding 3-0 victory.

In the final, he was up against Norfolk’s number one player, Jordan Creed, who is ranked 26 in England.

Chitty eased his way around the court in the first two games, winning 11-7, 11-8.

In the third game, Creed put up a strong fight but Chitty’s strength and fitness pulled him through to win 14-12. He has been training full-time for over a year at Ardleigh Hall, under the guidance of head coach Lee Drew.

His goal since turning professional was to finish his junior career in the top 20 ranked juniors in England.

And he has achieved it with ease, storming from a ranking of 128 to 15 in England, gaining three titles along the way.

“I’m happy to achieve the targets I set for my junior career,” he said.

“I’ve worked tirelessly over the past two years and it’s nice to see my hard work pay off.

“I’m extremely fortunate to have such fantastic support behind me.

“Lee has helped to develop my squash beyond belief.

“I’ve also got the most amazing mum, who has travelled with me to junior tournaments for years.”

Chitty is now focusing on the next phase of his squash career, cracking the senior circuit.

He is now back to his training regime to prepare himself for the challenge of professional men’s squash.
