Colchester United's under-18s will face Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals next month.

The U’s were reinstated after their fifth-round opponents Reading were thrown out of the competition for found guilty of a breach of the rules.

They fielded an under-age player in their 4-1 win at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, earlier this month.

The Royals had included 15-year-old Imari Samuels at left-back and according to the competition’s regulations, all players who compete in the FA Youth Cup must have turned 15 before midnight on August 31 of the current season.

Samuels was only 14 years of age, at this cut-off point.

Chris Llewellyn’s side will now host the Gunners at the Community Stadium on Tuesday, March 6, kick-off 7pm.

Colchester’s under-23s travel to play Newcastle United this afternoon in the Premier League Cup, kick-off 1pm.

The game at Whitley Park is the final fixture for Wayne Brown's side in Group D and they cannot qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

Newcastle are already through to the last 16 of the competition, having secured ten points from their five games so far.
