THE third round of the Essex Interclub League was fished on the Dock River at Harwich, hosted by the Harwich Club.
Reports indicated that the fishing would be hard, but in the event a few more fish showed and the winner found some of the elusive bream willing to feed.
Maldon’s Geoff Foreman was the lucky angler and he landed seven for a clear victory with 25-14-0. Bill Woolcott (Chelmsford) also had two bream in his second place 8-4-0 and host club member Barry Hickford weighed 6-1-0 for third.
Teams: 1 Maldon 51½ points, 2 Braintree 42, 3 Does 39. League To Date: 1 Maldon 26 points, 2 Harwich 25, 3 Does 21½, 4 CAPS A 21, 5 Braintree 18.
The Braintree Club Friday Sweeps continue to provide decent weights and Jim Loosley netted 22-8-0 to win on September 4 from Pete Thompson, who weighed 13-12-0.
The most recent saw those positions reversed, with Pete Thompson taking the top spot with 12-9-0, from Loosley who had 9-12-0.
The Sunday Sweep on the day of the league match saw Mark Orrin complete his hat-trick with a nice net of small carp, F1s and skimmers to weigh a total of 28-4-0. Pete Thompson claimed second place with 16-14-0.
The Cancer Research Open is to be fished on The Fennes on September 27. Tickets from Pete Thompson on 01376 344787 costing £25.
